Here are some of the best Chinese cuisine in Shanghai

Best Beijing Restaurant: Quanjude

Best Beijing Duck in Shanghai. Red Chinese style interior. Has three very spacious floors and comes with elevator. Good for celebrating family functions or for gatherings with big groups of people.

Best Hunan Resetaurant: Guyi

There is no other like Guyi. Guyi is a reknowned Hunan restaurant with branches in a lot of areas in Shanghai including Julu Road / Fumin Road and Jingan Temple. They have won quite a number of Best Restaurant awards in recent years and proudly display it in their lobby. This is absolutely the best if you’re into hot food. All their dishes are hot, but of course you can ask the waitress to tone down the spice. Good especially for cold weather. I take my guests here when dining in the Julu Road / Fumin Road area.

Best Hotpot: Little Sheep

There are several hotpot options in Shanghai, but Little Sheep is among the most popular. In fact, they have branches outside China, like US and Hongkong. In Little Sheep, you all share one hotpot bowl filled with broth soup and spicy soup, and from there you just dip one ingredient after another and fish it out together. Must eat with people you are comfortable with, especially if you’re all planning to share a bowl!

Best Dongbei Restaurant: Please recommend one

Unfortunately no one has been able to recommend me to a good Dongbei restaurant, so I have not tried this. There are several listed in magazines, but haven’t heard a direct consumer interpretation. But if you know of any, do let me know!
