Famous Shopping Roads
By Lainey | April 17, 2007
There are three famous shopping roads which are a must-see when you go to Shanghai:
Nanjing Road
Nanjing Road is a very long road filled with shopping options from end to end. Nanjing Xi Road (Nanjing West Road) is where several luxury brands have setup shop in malls like City Center and Plaza 66. To get here, get off at the Metro Line 2 Nanjing West Station or ride along one of the Nanjing West buses.
Nanjing Dong Road (Nanjing East Road) is the classic and more famous Nanjing Road. This is a classic road that has weathered but is still as grand as before. This now sort of reminds you of another famous shopping road in China, Wang Fu Jin in Beijing. The stores along Nanjing East Road are not high-end at all. They have a very local feel to it and are very affordable. To get here, get off at the Metro Line 2 Nanjing East station.

Huaihai Road
Huaihai Road is another famous shopping road in Shanghai lined with good quality foreign and local shops. Walking along Huaihai Road feels very much like you are in an outdoor mall, since all the stores that you would find in a mall are located here. There are also several malls that line Huaihai Road. If you are looking for a shopping fix, just come here. Start at the Metro Line 1 Shanxi Station and end at the Metro Line 1 Huangpu station. That is about 7 solid blocks of shopping bonanza. If you get tired of Huaihai Road, you can always take a detour to any of the nearby streets in this area, where you can do some French Concession shopping.

Huaihai Road. Must walk here.
